Hands-On with Super Mario Galaxy

Posted in Hands-On with Earl at 9:41 pm by earl

Dropping by Gamestop on a Christmas shopping day, I naturally expected a great game demo. No, it didn’t stop there. I got an awesome full game version play of Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii. The game starts off pretty simple, it tells the story of Mushroom Kingdom’s star festival, andso on and so forth. I couldn’t haved payed more attention if it wasn’t for the kid next to me asking, “What are you doing now” over and over. But I shouldn’t talk about my sister like that. Anyway, you play as Mario, running through the town, with the controls pretty simple: You can collect little stars, which act as your ammo, and these can be fired by aiming with the Wiimote and firing with B. Shooting Toad was more fun than it should have been. Anyway, you jump with A, and move with the analog stick. I’m pretty sure Z was crouch. Anywho, I ran through town to Peach’s castle, but then who would have guessed it, Bowser shows up and wrecks the party. However, he has a new plan, why take the princess, when you can take her castle? He takes her castle, and a magic koopa blasts Mario off into space. You wake up on a small asteroid, with a star that morphs into a bunny. You run around the small planet, chasing the bunny. However, you may be wondering, does running around a planet work? And my answer is, “well.” Nintendo has perfected the art of running around planets. Unfortunately, I saw the guys I was with outside at this point, and decided to remeet with them. I definitely look forward to spend more time with this game.

Mr. Monk and The Man Who Shot Santa

Posted in The Tube at 2:15 pm by earl

I finally got to see a new Monk episode last friday after waiting nearly 3 months, and it was a Christmas episode at that! It was well worth the wait. Monk was in a traffic jam with Natalie and Julie, when a man dressed as Santa up on a rooftop started throwing presents to all the people. Monk, not being the most Christmas-loving guy on earth, decided to go up and rebuke him of his illegal actions. Later you hear gun shots, and Monk confesses to shooting him, claiming Santa came at him. Monk was then became the most reviled man in San Fran, and was on a mission to prove Santa was in the wrong. I won’t spoil the ending, but in worked out well for Monk in a great Christmas episode, if not the best of the 3-Mr. Monk and the Secret Santa, Mr. Monk Meets His Dad, and this one. I loved it.

#17 Best Thing About Christmas-Christmas Movie Marathons/#16-Christmas Sweaters

Posted in Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 2:03 pm by earl

One of the best things about Christmas are the movies, and it pleases me every year to see Christmas-themed marathons showing such classics as Frosty the Snowman, Happy Gilmore, and more. It really shows that TV networks are as cheery as can be. So grab a cup of hot chocolate, cozy up by the fire, and watch Happy Gilmore over and over again. Tap-tap-tapiroo!

Another great thing about Christmas are the sweaters. Freshly knitted from Grandma or just bought at Wal-mart, these are classics that, although you may be embarrassed to wear, are sure to be found around Christmas time.

#18 Best Thing About Christmas-Wrapping Presents

Posted in Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 12:39 pm by earl

So far this Holiday season, I have been kicking butt when it comes to wrapping presents. I have wrapped each present under our Christmas tree. There’s just something about cutting the right amount of paper, slapping a bow and tag on there and taping it up that gets me all excited. It fills my heart with joy to see my presents under the tree.

Game of the Week: December 2-8

Posted in Video Games at 10:20 am by earl

I would like to apologize for forgetting Game of the Week last week, but, just so you know, it was Pain, a PSN game for the PS3.

As far as this week goes, there were a couple of decent games, not going as far as the atrocity of Alvin and the Chipmunks. However, I will give game of the week to Cranium Kabooki, which is a party game based on the board game. It is Game of the week.

The WestRoads Mall Shooting

Posted in Randomness at 9:42 pm by earl

As you may know, there was a shooting yesterday to the day I am typing this post at the Westroads Mall in Nebraska. 8 people were killed, and 5 were injured. The gunman, Robert Hawkins, eventually turned the gun on himself. 6 of the fatalities were employees, 2 were customers. I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to the families that lost bloved loved ones in this tragedy and I wish the people who were injured well and quick recovery. Robert Hawkins was 19 years old, and had just lost his job and his girlfriend. I nearly get sick looking at his picture. It makes me so sad that there are people out there who need mental help like Hawkins, who don’t get it, and instead of resolving their problems, they go out and take innocent lives, people he’s never even met before who has never done ANYTHING to him. Hawkins, prior to the event, almost killed a friend over a CD player. If that’s not a warning sign I don’t know what is. I’m not pointing out the blame to anyone for not recognizing Hawkins’ problem, I’m just upset that by the time we do, 14 people have been shot. He left a suicide note, saying “I’m going out in style.” A couple of months ago on April 16, a gunman came into VIrginia Tech and killed 32 people. A couple of years ago several people were killed in the Columbine shooting, and yet people wanted to make an RPG of it. I know it is a chilling subject, but unfortunately things like this happen all the time. I’m not putting the picture of Robert HAwkins provided by Wikipedia because I can’t stand to see that man’s fact on my site every time I log in. I would like to also mention I put this in the Randomness category, thanks James, I did need that. I would like to let those families know they are in my prayers and I hope they’re in yours too.

I Am Legend or National Treasure 2?

Posted in Movies, Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 9:26 pm by earl

Usually once every year towards the end of the year, my Grandma takes some of her grandkids to the movies, and we ususally go see whatever. Last year I was old enough to go see a movie by myself, and I saw The Pursuit of Happyness, a movie I had been looking forward to for a while and LOVED. But this end of the year, if we do it again, I will have to make a critical choice: National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets, or I Am Legend. I Am Legend looks plain awesome, and although it would be a risk, and the fact that it is probably scary, it looks worth it. I loved the first National Treasure, and the previews for the new one look just as good. So I want your opinion. What do you think? Should I go with I Am Legend, or National Treasure 2? You help me decide.

#19 Best Part About Christmas-Christmas Music

Posted in Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 9:50 am by earl

I have my own playlist on WIndows Media Player 11 of Christmas Music, and I like to listen to it while working. From the classics of Bing Crosby to the more modern day stylings of Amy Grant, Christmas music will forever be remembered by me as a classic part and one of the best parts of Christmas.

The 20 Days of Christmas-#20-The Santa Watch

Posted in Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 6:20 pm by earl

Does he have a gun?!?!?!?
Since Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year, thanks to all of the atmosphere it provides, and just the greatness it brings out in people, I am going to do a 20 days of Christmas, since today, December 5th, is 20 days away from Christmas. It seems like it’s flying by so quickly, which it does every year. The kid inside me wants it to be for the presents, but the older, wiser me wants to savor every minute. I would like to name off the 20 greatest things about Christmas over the next 20 days, one per day, the final being on Christmas Eve. I hope all of you have a very merry Christmas.

I would also like to mention that I will be doing several Christmas-related Top Ten lists. Including Top Ten Christmas Related TV Episodes, Top Ten Christmas Movies, Top Ten Christmas TV/Movie Santas, Top Ten Christmas Shopping Malls, and more.

Also, you need to realize that I am human, and thus I have probably left out several parts of Christmas. If you would like, remind me of them and I will mention them. There are some things being left out, one being the Christmas Card, which we can all remember in our hearts.

#20-One of my favorite things each Christmas Eve at my Grandma’s house after opening all the presents (one at a time clockwise around the room) we sometimes watched Channel 4 News, where they had showed a radar showing Santa on his way. This always got my hopes up, and has become a staple of my family’s Christmas.

I Want A Vii for Christmas!!!

Yes, probably the funniest rip-off in Gaming (Wait, I’m not even sure if I should classify this as a game) history, the Chinese have tryed to cash in on the popularity of the Wii, with their Chintendo Vii! I promise, I could not make this up. This system(?) uses the same motion sensing(?) as the Wii. So, if you want to experience first-hand copycatting, put the Vii on your shopping list.

Great Chuck Norris Facts

Posted in Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 9:46 pm by earl

Here are some of the funniest Chuck Norris facts ever! These are hillarious!

It takes Chuck Norris 20 minutes to watch 60 Minutes.

Chuck Norris once ate an entire bottle of sleeping pills. They made him blink.

Chuck Norris can touch MC Hammer.

Thousands of years ago Chuck Norris came across a bear. It was so terrified that it fled north into the arctic. It was also so terrified that all of its decendents now have white hair.

In the beginning there was nothing…then Chuck Norris Roundhouse kicked that nothing in the face and said “Get a job”. That is the story of the universe.

On his birthday, Chuck Norris randomly selects one lucky child to be thrown into the sun.

As you may have heard in the past couple of days, Activision, the team behind Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, Several Movie Games, and the 007 Games, has joined forces with Blizzard, the money-rollers with World of Warcraft and Diablo. They have just announced several sequels, including Guitar Hero 4, Call of Duty 5, Tony Hawk 10, an untitled racing project, James Bond 2008, and more. However, they denied the rumor of a console version of WOW. Happy Gaming.

Villains?!?!?!?

Posted in The Tube, Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 10:34 pm by earl

At the end of the Volume Finale of Generations-Powerless, which I will rundown in entirety sometime soon, it was revealed that the name of Volume 3 is called Villains, not Exodus, as both Wikipedia and The Post Show declared. This brief teaser showed Sylar in an alley after getting an ampule of Claire’s blood. He injected himself with it, and was able to levitate an empty can of spinach to himself, immediately saying the now classic quote, “I’m back.” Volume 3 looks to be a huge Volume whenever the writer’s stop striking.
