Game Preview-Star Wars:The Force…..UNLEASHED!!!

Posted in Game Previews at 5:06 pm by earl

The second game I’m most looking forward to in 2008 (1000 points to who can tell the #1), Star Wars:The Force Unleashed looks to one of 2008’s crown jewels. Being headed by LucasArts, fantastic developers behind Star Wars Battlefront, and just pretty every Star Wars game, it looks to be in good hands. It’s also being helped out by Hasbro, Lego, and Dark Horse! Of course, the others will be mainly helping with the Comic and toys. LucasArts is definitely sharing the love and shooting the game for numerous platforms, including the PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, DS, and Wii. The game is basically a in-the-middle-quel with the story revolving around Darth Vader’s secret apprentice sent to take out the remaining Jedi after Order 66 in Episode 3 and before the events of Episode 4. Some have even said he was hired by Vader to take down the Emperor. But we’ll just have to wait and see. The game uses a super cool new game whosamawhatey called Digital Molecular Matter, where the environment really reacts like ti should. You set a Stormtrooper on fire, he’ll react as if he’s on fire. The environment just got cooler. You 360 fans can go with your fancy graphics, but is Wiiboys will be having way more fun with our motion-sensing. I’m hoping it will go lightsaber control with the Wii remote, and then force control with the nunchuk. Overall, this game looks super super sweet and will hopefully be hitting store shelves sometime in April.

Call of Duty 4 Has Won the War

Posted in Video Games, Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 5:54 pm by earl

Call of Duty 4 released on November 5, 2007, and has been getting spectacular reviews. It received a 10/10 from Official Xbox Magazine, Official Playstation Magazine, and Game Informer. It received a 9.4 from IGN, and a 92% from Gamerankings. I think. No score yet has been below a 90. Well done soldier. This game is running strong to be Game of the Year.

Spore on the Wii!!!

Posted in Video Games, Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 1:54 pm by earl

A little game that made a big splash at E3 a couple of years ago was Spore, a game created by the genius behind The Sims 2, Will Wright. In the game you will control a creature that goes through the world gradually working through the ranks. You will FULLY coustomize your…..whatever and watch him grow and fight other…..whatevers. This is proof the Wii can handle a big game. Spore does not have a release date yet, but it looks to be worth the wait.

Game of the Month-October 2007

Posted in Video Games at 7:04 am by earl

October has been pretty big for video games, however November looks to be the grand daddy of the year with Uncharted, Rock Band, Army of Two, Assassin’s Creed, and much more coming out. But one game must stand as the winner this past month. Will it be Guitar Hero III:Legends of Rock, Ratchet and Clank Future:Tools of Destruction, Beautiful Katamari, The Orange Box, or The Legend of Zelda:Phantom Hourglass. The winner, of Game of the Month October 2007 is a tie between Ratchet and Clank 5 (I’m a R & C fanboy), The Orange Box (5 Games for the price of 1 cannot be ignored), and Guitar Hero 3 (it rocks).

Game of the Week: October 28-November 3

Posted in Video Games at 6:57 pm by earl

This week has been greeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat for video games! We finally received Guitar Hero 3, The Simpsons Game, Timeshift, Battalion Wars 2 (Wii), Virtua Fighter 5, and guitar Hero 3. Once again, one game rocked itself to the top. Yes, I do desperately want to play the Simpsons Game, so that’s why I’m giving it a tie between the two for Game of the Week.

Hands-On with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock!!!

Posted in Hands-On with Earl at 6:45 pm by earl

Yea, I got to play a couple of songs with one of my favorite rhythmn-based games, Guitar Hero 3. The game has a whole new look, a whole new list of great songs, and a brand new great-looking Gibson Les Paul Guitar. And this is my hands-on review. Well, I was first just amazed at the look and feel of the guitar, which was amazing. The fret buttons are now outlined in their color, which looks cool, and the black (white for Wii) base looks shiny. I started out with a pretty basic song, “Rock you like a Hurricane”, which I kicked butt at. You’re reading a post from the #1 High Scorer! I then went on to “Hit me with your best shot”, and rounded out with Tenacious D. Overall, a very sleek, shiny package that I look forward to playing in the future.

Note: I played the 360 version, not the Wii version, however I hear the Wii version has vibration on it. Awesome!

Hands-On with Earl Double Feature

Posted in Hands-On with Earl at 12:03 pm by earl

Yes! It’s True! I have not one, but two games on Hands-On with Earl today. And heeerrrrreee we go. We’ll start with Metroid Prime 3:Corruption. After giving Gamespot my Drvier’s License, I was able to play the first few moments of Metroid Prime 3:Corruption on the Wii. It starts out with a pretty cool story, where you, Samus, are being called in to help out the Federation with the evil Dark Samus. You had control over your ships devices, and had to use them to land. You basically point, tap A on the device, and Samus will push it. You also had to type ina certain code and send messages using the motion sensing, which felt nice, although a little sensitive at times. You then on board the ship where you basically fire with A and aimed with the Wiimote. You could change visors by holding down - and tilting into the certain zone of that selected visor. Pretty simple. I would recommend it to any FPS fan that owns a Wii trhat’s looking for something unique.

I then dropped by Target and gave Heavenly Sword a spin. After a cutscene I skipped, I made Nariko jump onto a rope where it came into an interactive cutscene. The soldiers on the other side cut your rope, but once I got to the other side I taught them a lesson. The combat felt a little loose and repetitive, but once I tilted the controller to the side when finshing off a baddy, she went into a mini-cutscene where she pulled an awesome finsihing move. I did this several times and then went on to the end of the demo. Overall, a pretty strong game for the PS3.

Game Rivalries

Posted in The Way Earl Sees It, Video Games at 2:12 pm by earl

No, I’m not talking about sales or which game is the best, I’m talking about the game rivalries we’re facing today, namely the big battle between Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band, and Skate and Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. So which one is better and which one deserves your cold hard-earned cash? This is the way I see it.

About a year ago we heard new of Skate, which was rumored to be a Tony Hawk killer. Well, Skate did release back in mid-September, and Proving Ground just released a week or two ago. So, with releases like this, the Battle of the Bands, and all of the rivalries of genres which can look really similar, which one should you buy? Well, it all depends on what you want! No two games are exactly alike. One may be way better then the other and the other can be an atrocious failure, one may have a different gameplay aspect, one may be more broad than the other, whicever you prefer. If you don’t wanna pay $200 for Rock Band but want a more cheaper experience, go with Guitar Hero! It all depends on what you want!

Game of the Week: October 21-27

Posted in Video Games at 8:13 am by earl

As you may know, a huge huge huge huge huge game came out this week, and its name is Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, and despite its bad review from Gamespot, it is awesome. But it still had some competition. This came in the form of Ace Combat 6, The Eye of Judgment, the new Pheonix Wright, and more. But Ratchet and Clank still wins.

Game Preview-Brutal Legend

Posted in Game Previews at 4:42 pm by earl

My favorte video game designer is the legendary Tim Schafer, whose ingenious works like Psychonauts, Grim Fandango, and Day of the Tentacle have brought brand new meaning to video games. His newest project is called Brutal Legend, it follows a roadie named Eddie Riggs, who is voiced by the crazy Jack Black. Anyway, Eddie is a roadie who on a tour one day when he accidentally cuts himself and he gets blood on his ancient belt, which transports him hundreds of years into the past. The game’s art design distinctively reminds me of Psychonauts, which is a great thing. The combat looks to be a big part, with Eddie’s main weapon being a guitar, his “axe”. The game will have a load of references to rock and its legends, and it looks to be the unsung greatness of 2008. You can be sure this is going to be great with a genius like Tim Schafer at the helm. ALl 360 and PS3 owners need to do themselves a favor and pick up this game when it rocks on uniquely sometime in 2008.

Okami is Running to the Wii!!!

Posted in Video Games, Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 9:28 am by earl

Okami has finally been confirmed to be ported to the Wii, thanks to great motion sensing controls. James, this game is 100% clean, and is epic from start to finish. The game is something no Wii owner should miss, and it should be hitting stores sometime in 2008.

Also, they have confirmed that Star Wars:The Force Unleashed will be coming to the Wii. Yes!!! Put this one down along the other 20 million great Wii games I won’t be able to afford!!!
