C.Y.C.-Challenge Youth Conference

Posted in Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 5:49 pm by earl

This is a little out of the ordinary for my posts, but this is worth mentioning. It’s called Challenge Youth Conference, and it’s a, how do I describe it, a youth summit service. Thousands upon thousands of mainly youth church members from across Tennessee and some other states come and take part in it. There are some great speakers, great singing, Christian bands performing, and hillarious activities. It takes place most of the time in February, over three days-Friday Night, Saturday, and Sunday morning. And at the peak of the Smoky Mountains in the peak of Winter, the atmosphere is wonderful, with it calmly cold and sometimes snowing. This is a wonderful service for anyone who wants to learn more and have a great time doing it.

I will do top ten games, gear, or just those little toys you’ve been dying to play with for each of the specific types of fans of us out there-Sc-Fi Fulfiller, Action Buff, Jockman, etc. I hope you enjoy.

Heroes-Truth or Consequences

Mohinder has revived Bennet, and Bennet’s mad. He threatens Mohinder for stealing Claire’s blood, and threatens to kill him. Claire is back in Costa Verde, and she is spreading her father’s “ashes” that Bob brought her. I wonder whose ashes they really are? She meets with Elle, and threatens her, telling her she’ll reveal to everyone who she is and what she can do so the Company will be on the run, not her.

Sylar also was very interesting this week. He has taught Maya how to control her power, and she likes it. They threaten to leave Alejandro that they’ll leave him behind, but he refuses to help them. He comes in to kill Sylar, but Sylar kills him. Sylar escapes with Maya and the ytake Molly hostage.

Back in New Orleans, Micah and Monica are on a mission to get D.L.’s medal back from some thugs. Monica super leaps into the house, gets the medal, but is kidnapped. Suresh also alerted Niki that he found a cure with Claire’s blood.

Hiro was determined to avenge his father’s death. While looking through some old files, he fins a picture of his father, Victoria, and Adam. He then finds an order to lock up Adam forever. he then travels back to that day. He discovered Victoria was the one who made the virus strand and that Kaito ordered it to go to Primatech. He then sees Adam being locked away by Kaito. Back in the present, Hiro travels to Primatech to stop the virus.

Peter and Adam are on a mission to find the virus, but with different motives. Peter want to stop it, but Adam wants to release it. They travel to Victoria Cross’ house, where she takes Peter hostage. Later he comes out telling Adam the virus is in New Mexico. Adam tells Peter that there is no facility in New Mexico, that is before he was blown away by Victoria’s shotgun. Peter stops her from shooting Adam in the head, which is the only way to kill an invincible man, and they take her hostage in her home. She warns Peter of Adam’s secret motives, but he ignores her. Peter reads her mind and discovers the virus strand is in Primatech Paper in Texas. Adam shortly after kills her. The reach Primatech, but Hiro shows up. He tells Peter duringa time freeze that they must stop Adam. He charges at Peter, ending the episode.

It’s all coming together for an explosive finale next Monday.

Yes, Mythbusters finally tested a couple of myths from the Pirates of the Carribbean series on their second pirate special this past Wednesday night. Nolanator, I’m sure you’ll remember the scene in Curse of the Black Pearl where Will and Jack were escaping from the soldiers. They took a boat, created an air bubble, and walked on the ocean floor with the boat above their heads, protecting from harm. Well, the Mythbusters put it to the test. It worked……Until they reached deeper waters. Once they did land on the floor of the pool, they were not able to hold on to the boat. The thing eas just waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy to buoyant for them to be able to hold on to it. IF you were able to get to the ocean floor, which they weren’t with the boat, and then held on to the boat, you just wouldn’t be able to hold onto it. It’s just a matter of physics. So technically Jack and Will would have died at the beginning of Pirates 1, which means Barbossa and his crew would probably be somewhere with or without Davy Jones.

They also tested the myth that pirates could efficiently use silverware as ammunition to their cannons, as seen towards the end of Curse of the Black Pearl, where Ragetti was stabbed in his wooden eye with a fork. Well, that could not have happened. Silverware just doesn’t have that kind of accuracy. It just ends up shooting anywhere but at the target. Also, it doesn’t fire that well anyway. There’s just too much air going around the silverware to propel it with deadly force. However, as they packed several steak knives in a sebot (look it up), it propelled with deadlier accuracy. However, as you can see in the movie, that is not what happened. I know it was just a movie, but when you mess with science, science messes back.

Activision just announced that there will be two expansions for Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock in the upcoming year. Hopefully, they will share the love on all of the original consoles Guitar Hero 3 was released for-PS2, 360, Wii, and PS3. Word has it that one will be an exclusive Aerosmith expansion. Dude looks like a lady please! Maybe even a boss battle with Steven Tyler!!!! I also hope it doesn’t cost as much as Rocks the 80s.

The Blue Collar Comedy Group

Posted in Comics at 6:10 pm by earl

Probably my favorite comedy group, the Blue Collar Comedy Group has spanned three hilarious movies, numerous unforgettable quotes, and several conversations. It’s members include my favorite, Bill Engvall, Ron White, Larry the Cable Guy, and Jeff Foxworthy. There are probably some out there who say, “Well their nothing but a bunch of rednecks.” That may be true, but if you can sit through any of their specials without even chuckling, you aren’t human. Here is some of the funniest material from each of the comedians.

Bill Engvall

(mimicking a big fish talking to a little fish) “Hey - Perch…” (points at his eyes, then at the imaginary perch’s) “Look at me…” (thinks, concedes, then points at the sides of his head where a fish’s eyes would be) “Look at me…” - oh, I’ve thought it all through - “if you ever see a worm… in the shape of a J… swim away. That’s how we lost your Uncle Pike.”

Like, the other day she brought home a friend who’s into this goth stuff. Oh my God! Have you seen these little freaks? What happened?! With the black nail polish, black lipstick, black eyeliner, black hair, and Liquid Paper-white face. . . I’m sorry, didn’t we used to call that “Halloween”??

She came to the door with my daughter, and I did this: [Bill cracks up laughing and points] But, I’m trying to be nice to her because she’s my daughter’s friend. My daughter says, “Daddy, this is my friend, Lucy.” I said, “Well, hey Lucy. . .fer.” She looked at me like, “I will set you ablaze right now.”

Jeff Foxworthy

The thing about that singles apartment is you never had to clean it up… until the day you got the security deposit back. You’re arguing with the landlord… “No sir, the back door was missing when we moved in here! The pizzas were always on the ceiling!”

If you ever start feeling like you have the goofiest family in the world, all you have to do is go to a state fair. Five minutes at the fair, you’ll be going, “You know what? We’re all right. We’re dang near royalty!”

The problem with the designated driver program is it’s not a desirable job. But if you ever get sucked into doing it, have fun with it. At the end of the night, drop them off at the wrong house, preferably in their boss’s front yard… But it’s better than the system we used to use: “Hey dude, get up! Give us a ride home, man! C’mon, whaddaya say? We’ll buy ya a beer!”

You break into my house, I will shoot you. My wife will shoot you and then spend thirty minutes telling you why she shot you.

To his wife) You do not have testicular cancer. You don’t even have “testiculars”!

Do you know why it’s so hard to solve a Redneck murder?… ‘Cause there’s no dental records and all the DNA is the same.

Ron White

I never had much of a vocabulary. In fact, my friend Bob Schnieder would still be alive today if I’d known the difference between “antidote” and “anecdote”. He got bitten by a copperhead, and I’m telling him funny stories out of Reader’s Digest. His head started to swell, I said “This ain’t working”. He goes, “READ FASTER!!”

Am I Really Powerless?

Posted in The Tube at 5:54 pm by earl

The Season Finale of Volume 2 of Heroes, Powerless, looks ot be action packed. Here is the description of it from Wikipedia:

Peter and Nathan Petrelli are reunited, but a battle erupts between them, Matt Parkman and Hiro Nakamura, set up by Adam Monroe. Monica Dawson is captured by a street gang, and Micah Sanders turns to his mother Niki for help. Maya Herrera learns Sylar’s true nature when he kidnaps Molly Walker and Mohinder Suresh. Elle plays the hero to get back into her father’s good graces.

Also, there is a new awesome site I found called www.heroes-pictures.com, where I found these awesome pictures of that episode and more!

Let My People Watch Heroes!!!

Posted in The Tube at 5:36 pm by earl

Wikipedia, the world’s greatest web site, has just informed me some new information on Heroes. One of my favorite aspects of Heroes is the way that they tell stories. Each span of character arcs and one big storyline Volume 1-Exploding Man, Volume 2-Shanti Virus. Well, due to the fact that the writers are being a bunch of whiny babies, Volume 2 is being cut short, somewhat “summarized”, and instead of Season 2 being just Volume 2, Season 2 will pause for the writer’s strike, cut short Volume 2, and begin Volume 3 which will fill in the other half of Season 2 with 13 episodes, making Season 2 a little longer than Season 1, which had 23 episodes. However, the big news and cause of this post is the revealing of the name of the third volume-Exodus. I LOVE IT!!!! Heroes is really starting to take a Biblical aspect. Think about it. Volume 1-Genesis (1st Book in Bible), Volume 2-Generations (Which the later part of Genesis did a lot of), and now Volume 3-Exodus (2nd book). Exodus means a departure, a leaving, so I wonder how that will affect the storyline? I mean, Genesis was the characters getting their powers, Generations was showing some family and new characters, so what can we expect with Exodus? We’ll just have to give the writers their baby bottles and hope that they stop whining so I can have something to do on Monday nights again. So, what’s a summary?:

Season 1-Volume 1: Genesis: 23 Episodes-Ended May 23
Season 2-Volume 2: Generations: 11 Episodes-Ends December 3
Volume 3: Exodus: 13 Episodes-Total Episodes for Season 2-24-Begins ?

Wait a minute, our Gateway tests are the day after Heroes ends. Now I won’t be able to do well because I’ll be bummed about Heroes!

Game of the Week: November 18-24/Game of the Month: November 2007

Posted in Video Games at 10:54 am by earl

I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving and I hope everyone has safe, happy holidays which can and does refer to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. This was another huge release week, with great titles like Unreal Tournament 3, Mass Effect, and Mario PArty DS. But one did stand above the rest. It is Mass Effect, thanks to its superb visuals, intense moldable story, and just plain coolness.

Because I’m lazy and I’m still tired over my huge Thanksgiving dinner, I will go ahead and do Game of the Month. Will it be Mass Effect or Super MArio Galaxy? If you know me, you already know the answer. It is Super Mario Galaxy. It is the #1 Ranked Game on GameRankings.com, ending the 9 year rule of Ocarina of Time! It wins.

Happy Thanksgiving

Posted in Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 2:28 pm by earl

That's messed up.
I would just like to wish everyone on this thankful day a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope we all can realize all the things we have been blessed with, and have some happy holidays. May each of you be safe if your traveling. Happy Holidays!

By the way, please remember that the other people who you are slapping in the face for that Wii have probably been up since 3:00 that morning, so do not test them, or they will slap you back! Be careful if you adventure out on Black Friday. I am thankful for you guys, all that help me, my family, my friends, and all other things God has blessed me with.

The #1 Game I’m Most Thankful For-The Guitar Hero Series

Posted in Video Games at 10:25 am by earl

I cannot think of a moment that I have come into school and not have a conversation about Guitar Hero or Halo. The game is just that awesome. I once spent an hour and thirty minutes in class playing Guitar Hero. I am also thankful for Guitar Hero for bringing gaming into mainstream, and even getting the “cool crowd” into gaming. I would give $20 to anyone who can find someone who doesn’t live in a cave that has not heard of Guitar Hero. I am thankful for everything this game has produced. That is, except for the weird fanboys and spinoffs.

I would also like to mention that I am also thankful for the Halo series. It’s true, the only reason these two tied was because I forgot about Halo. But I am pretty close to equal thanfulness with both. However, I am more thankful of Guitar Hero. Halo has just provided hillarious moments I’ll never forget. Guitar Hero and Halo, I am thankful for you!

Happy Thanksgiving, Drive Safely, Happy Holidays.

#2 Game I’m Most Thankful For-The Ratchet and Clank Series

Posted in Video Games at 5:31 pm by earl

My favorite gaming series out of all genres is the Ratchet and Clank series. Thanks to fantastic weapons, cool level design, and hillarious story, this game makes me thankful. I have beat the third installment about 4 times, so you’d think I like it. The story is just another thing that has me in stiches for laughing so much:

Skrunch the Monkey-Oooh ooh Ahhh!!!! (To Quark)
Quark-It was mating season!!! How was I supposed to know she was your sister! (He sees Ratchet and Clank)
Quark-How long have you two been standing there?
Clank-Toooooo long.

Ratchet and Clank, I am thankful for you!

Heroes-Cautionary Tales

Kaito's Funeral
This week’s episode was my favorite so far, and the season just keeps getting better! This episode shot off like a bullet. Pun intended.

Matt brought Angela back into questioning about the people in the picture, especially wanting to know who one particular woman was. Matt now has the ability to use the Jedi Mind Trick of sorts and send thought commands into people’s heads. So, he forces Angela to tell him the truth about the group. She yells at Parkman, telling him that the people that started the group only wanted to keep their children (some of the new Heroes) safe, and she demanded respect. She told him they locked up Adam Monroe 30 years ago and now he wants revenge. She told Matt that if he forced the thouht out of her that he was just like his father.

Hiro was determined to save his father. At his funeral, he teleports back to when Angela and Kaito were talking about their possible deaths. Hiro warns his father, and takes them back to Hiro’s mother’s funeral. There Hiro met with his younger self, a self that still believed in Kensei. There Hiro’s father told Hiro, “We may have powers of Gods, but we do not get to play God!!!” Kaito refused to be saved, and instead let fate take its course. But as Kensei was pushing Kaito off the ledge, Hiro discovered his father’s killer. It’s on.

Mr. Bennet was determined to keep Claire safe from the hands of Bob, the now revealed Regional Manager of Primatech Paper. As soon as Bennet walks out, West wisks him off. Bennet tells West that he must be pretty important to Claire if he’ll risk his life for her. Meanwhile, Mohinder convinces Elle and Bob to let him try to convince Bennet to let them borrow Claire instead of killing Bennet straightaway. Mohinder meets with Bennet in his car, and Bennet refuses. Mohinder pulls a gun and Elle showed up. However, West knocked her out by mid-air tackling her. Mohinder fired, missing, however fulfilling the painting. Bennet then points the gun at Mohinder, but not shooting him, just kicking him against the door panel. Later, they take Elle hostage in exchange for Claire who Bob has taken hostage. Bennet reveals that Ellle was the reason he didn’t want Claire taken in, because she would end up like her. Bob did take some blood from Claire though. Later, there was a super cool standoff moment, where as Claire and Elle were being exchanged, Elle burned through her tape and attacked. Bennet shot her and pointed his gun at Bob. He said that if Bob was dead, so would the Company, but before he could fire, Mohinder, like a coward, shot Bennet in the eye, killing one of my favorite characters. West flew Claire off. Later, at the very end of the episode, we saw Claire’s blood being injected into Bennet, reviving him.
