Guitar Hero 3:Legends of Rock Wii Controller

Posted in Video Games at 10:27 am by earl

For a while I was wondering how they were going to input the guitar controller with the Wii’s synchronization controller technique. I love the way they’re doing it! Check it out! Now I can play Slow Ride! Slow Ride! And just in case you can’t tell, it’s in the guitar, right next to the jiggle thingy.

E3 07-Preview Show

Posted in Video Games at 10:23 am by earl

On the night of July 10, 2007 G4 showed an exclusive preview show to this year’s E3, and they also got a chance to play some of the featured games. And I was there on my couch watching it so I could give you the inside scoop. We all have to make sacrifices.

Last year at E3 all attention was on the newly named Revolution, the Wii, and the Playstation 3. Everybody was getting ready to wait in line about5 months later to join the next-gen race and put their bets on a horse. My time came around 6 months after that. Anyway, this year it’s all about the games, the stuff that makes or breaks a console. And this holiday season has been said to have the best games ever! With cool releases like Guitar Hero 3:Legends of Rock, Super Mario Galaxy, Halo 3, and Lair coming out, it looks to also be an expensive one. They got their hands on several games, like Left 4 Dead, a zombie shooter which will focus on co-op and intense Battlefield-like situations, Medal of Honor Airbourne which will put a new spin on World War 2, and more. But one of the coolest demos to me was Guitar Hero 3:Legends of Rock. This game appearing on both Playstations, the 360, and the Wii will be heading out this holiday season, and I am psyched! The new controller will have customizable faceplates, wireless guitars, tricks you can play on your opponent, and more.

Overall, this year’s E3 will be one to remember with great new games games coming out and possibly a few bombshells to drop. Will there be a PS3/360 Price drop? Will your favorite games come out soon? And when will Killzone 2 come out? All of these questions and more wll be answered (except for the last one) in the next three days!

The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess

Posted in Game Reviews at 1:26 pm by earl

(9.75/10.00) Finally, after 45 hours of running through dungeons, fighting epic boss battles, and finally taking down Ganondorf on my first try, I am ready to review The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess. I know I usually tell the storyline, but I could spend a week typing up all the things that happened, so here’s the general jist: Link is a farmboy in Ordon, whose friends are kidnapped by creatures. He then gets kidnapped and transforms into a wolf, and soon is going through temples collecting tears of light, fused shadows, and pieces of a mirror in order to save Hyrule from the impending Twilight whic is being ran by Zant, a false king, who is being ran by Ganondorf, the big ol’ king of evil. Honestly, this is the most epic game I have ever played. I felt like I was playing through Lord of the Rings or something. Yeesh. Anyway, this being on the Wii, there is motion-sensing. Shake the Wiimote to swing your sword and shake the nunchuk to use the spin attack. You also use the Wiimote to aim certain weapons. Not only is there a main quest, but there are also mini little things thrown in. One of my favorites being the Hidden Skills:Seven sword techniques that a mystic swordsmen will teach you when you locate him. The temples, although sometimes annoying (9.75), are variative, and the boss battles are amazing. The ones with Zant and Ganondorf are the most amazing overall, having 4-6 completely different phases each. Overall, Twilight Princess is a gaming treasure and should be played by any Wii owner.

Movie Previews-Harry Potter, Captivity, Talk to Me

Posted in Movies at 1:00 pm by earl

Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix-Harry Potter is back again in the third Harry Potter film, and this time Voldemort is doing something, there’s a pretty cool broomride, and there’s a new organization called the Order of the Pheonix. The movie looks promising, but I think J.K. Rowling should have done away with the wands and instead, use the magic like Force lightning.

Captivity-This Saw-like movie has two people chained together in someone’s basement, and they’re trying to escape. This movie sounds a lot like Saw. Hmmm…..That’s all I got for this movie that sounds like Saw. Did I mention that this movie sounds like Saw?

Talk To Me-This movie follows Don Cheadle as he plays a radio-show talk host during the turmoil in the 60s. This movie actually looks pretty proising in a flood of actio flicks. A rare gem in the diamond mine of summer… A…Oh forget it…

Evan Almighty

Posted in Movies at 12:45 pm by earl

(Grade:A-) This one was definitely better than the first. It tells the story of Evan Baxter in his new job of Congressman trying to follow God’s instructions of building an ark. Steve Carell does a pretty good job, not including a few moments. Morgan Freeman once again does a great job of playing God. The whole movie flows along smoothly, but there was only one problem I had with it. It didn’t quite follow the Bible all the way through. There were two doors of Evan’s Ark, and they closed it. They let other people on the ark, and rain didn’t cause the flood. One thing I loved about it however, was it’s family-friendiness, something not found in Bruce Almighty. Overall, this is a really fun movie for the summer.

Is Harry Potter “Evil”?

Posted in The Way Earl Sees It at 12:34 pm by earl

With the new Harry Potter movie coming out this Friday and the final book coming out the next Friday, the question comes back up: “Is Harry Potter evil?”. Well, many people have debated on this controversial topic, especially with the new book coming out July 13. I personally will be at home watching the Season Premiere of Monk and Psych, mostly because I don’t really care for Harry Potter and I would probably just end up making a lot of jokes about Harry Potter and end up getting thrown out of Books-A-Million. But back to the main question, “Is Harry Potter Evil?”. Well, what does the Bible have to say about it? Back in early Exodus whe nMoses was sent by God to set the Isrealites free, when he was performing his “miracles” you might say with his staff, there were sorcerers that tryed to pull off the same tricks. Yes, I know, the movie is not real, but I do think that it has had some influence on society, with more and more people going to Psychics or whatnot. No, I don’t think this is making people go outside casting spells on other people, becuase that’s pretty much the same thing as Spiderman. Overall, I  think that Harry Potter isn’t going to cause the downfall of society, I just think that this is just getting kid’s imagination going, but it could be somewhat of a bad influence in a wrong mindset. It all depends on how you look at it. Me personally, I’ll just stay home and watch Monk.

Transformers:The Game (Wii)

Posted in Game Reviews at 8:04 am by earl

(8.00/10.00) More than meets the eye! I picked up the Transformers movie game for the Wii and as a movie game, it is giving Spiderman a run for his money! You play through the movie’s storyline with extra, more in-depth, explaining missions. There are different “levels” with 4-5 “chapters” in each. The first level you play as Bumblebee, then in Level 2 Jazz, Ironhide, and Optimus, in Level 3 Bumblebee, and then mixed up in Level 4, Level 5 being a boss battle only. With guess who?…..Bobby Bolivia from the car dealership! Not really. There’s also a Decepticon storyline which is also pretty neat. One thing I loved about this game were the graphics. The Transformers look spot-on, and the ability to transform when you please was very cool, and it also gave you two different ways to complete some missions. The combat is pretty fun, shaking the Wiimote for melee attacks (punching, kicking, etc.) and moving the Nunchuk vertically to pick up any object aroung you. Overall, this is a great movie game that anyone with a thirst for more after the movie will love.

Game of the Week: July 1-7

Posted in Video Games at 7:52 am by earl

Overall, this week has been pretty good in the Video Game World. We got our hands on two or three good games, but we did have to throw some games down. Like the non-surprisingly bad Chicken Shoot for the Wii. But there was one game that also did dissapoint us but it wasn’t about shooting poultry. Vampire Rain. This game looked somewhat promising at E3 06, but sadly, this stelth shooter joins Hour of Victory in their graveyard of possibly good games that fell short. But, through the rubble, one game did come out on top. It’s name is Ninja Gaiden Sigma. With truly Ninja Gameplay and cool combat, this is the Game of the Week.

Hands-On with Virtua Fighter 5

Posted in Hands-On with Earl at 1:12 pm by earl

When in Target, on their Playstation 3 they have demos of several games, including Virtua Fighter 5, and I got to play the full thing. Here’s my Hands-On. Well, I noticed that the character models and the environments were both pretty, and I really liked how each character fought differently with different styles:Martial Arts, etc. Your enenmies also had varied attacks. You either pressed X or Square to attack for your basic attacks, making it easy to newbies to the fighting genre. Overall, this is a pretty solid game for the Ps3 that any PS3 owner should check out.

Transformers

Posted in Movies at 9:04 am by earl

Before I start this review I must set one of my pet peeves out on the line. The person sitting to the left of me two seats over from me was a hyena…a pottymouthed hyena. I can understand if you’re enjoying the movie, but if it sounds like you’re trying to pass a kidney stone and you’re saying the “s word” and “ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” as much as someone who is passing one, you need to, as Dr. Evil said, “Take it down a notch.”.

(Grade:A+) You know how people come out of a movie saying what the most awesome part is? Well, there are so many, that I can’t pick one. The story follows the Autobots and Decepticons coming to Earth to find the All Spark, an energy source to save their planet. The special effects are just plain gorgeous, and the battle scenes are epic, long enough, and variative, my favorite being the scorponok battle in Qatar. The voice acting is also very cool, and the performances by Shia Lebouf, John Turturro, and Megan Fox are great.
And I am definitely looking forward to a sequel with it showing Starscream getting away in the credits. This movie could also not just be called an action, but it’s a comedy. Anderson and his “cousin” provide a hillarious performance, and so do Bernie Mac, Shia, and even the Transformers. Overall, if you see this movie and do not enjoy it, you really need to consider what things you do enjoy.

Movie Previews-Transformers, License to Wed, Rescue Dawn

Posted in Movies at 10:29 am by earl

Transformers-More than meets the eye! One of the movies I am most looking forward to this year, Transformers will tell the story of two robot factions, the Autobots and Decepticons, coming to Earth to find an energy source for their planet. Wooooooo! Words cannot describe how awesome   this movie looks! Thank you Fandango! Now those puppets can stop patronizing me!

License to Wed-Robin Williams is coming back on screen with his new comedy. The very funny John Krasinski and Mandy Moore are a couple determined to get married, but before they can do that, they have to go through Reverend Frank. But will they be able to get through it and live happily ever after? We’ll just have to wait and see. I myself will too busy obsessing over Transformers. Let’s just hope this movie gem doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.

Rescue Dawn-Former Batman Christian Bale is starring in the new movie about the true story of an American pilot who was shot down in Vietnam and captured by Vietcong Guerillas. He was and is my favorite Batman so let’s hope he does just as well in this role opening Wednesday in limited release.

More Awesome Transformers Pictures

Posted in Movies at 7:55 am by earl

You may be wondering, “Earl, why are you so excited about Transformers?” Well, it’s because I’m a guy, and most of us like big things, transforming, and shooting other big things. Another reason is that I have Fandangoed my tickets and plan on seeing the first showing at my local theater!

Deja Vu

Posted in Movies at 2:50 pm by earl

(Grade:A-)  This was actually a pretty good movie. It follows an officer (Denzel Washington) who is on the case with a high-tech team that has found a way to watch the past events in order to stop a crime that has already happened. Denzel’s acting is pretty good, although not as good as in John Q.  Warning:The first 30 minutes, despite an awesome explosion, are some of the slowest in movie history, but the next 90 are both interesting and action packed. Overall, this isn’t a bad renter for Friday night.
