Game of the Week:June 3-9

Posted in Video Games at 8:00 am by earl

Well, nothing really broke the mold this week, yet you had a few that did provide some enjoyment. Tomd Raider:Anniversary was released and so was Planet Puzzle League for the DS. Both were great games, but for a game to be Game of the Week, it has to also be different. So I decided to give it to the new Western shooter, Call of Juarez, which has cool music, great multiplayer, and beautiful graphics.

Mythbusters-Big Rig Myths

Posted in The Tube at 9:12 am by earl

This time, the Mythbusters are testing three Big Rig Myths-Could a Big Rig that you’re driving next to have a tire that blows up and cuts your head off? Could you conserve gas mileage by driving behind a Big Rig? And can you really drive into the back of a Big Rig at 60 m.p.h. without crashing? The Mythbusters will find out!

First off Adam and Jamie make their own machine that will spin a tire without actually having to drive the car, and then they will, with Buster on his motorcycle right next to it, subject the tire to anything that will cause it to explode and cause Buster harm. They spin the tire at 40 m.p.h. and do everything from shooting it to superheating it, but nothing seems to cause the explosive effect. They then use something which causes an exploding effect, but they all missed Buster. They then decide to make a rubber-chucking machine, just to see if a piece of tire flew at you if it could sever your head. It did. the flat piece of rubber shattered the window and remove the head right off from the spine they had put in. The build team had their hands full with seeing if you conserve gas mileage by driving behind a Big Rig. Small-scale tests seem to show it, and when they put it to the big test, it proves it. The gas mileage considerably improves as you come closer to the Big Rig, except when Grant was about 2 feet behind, where he was constantly moving back and forth to maintain distance, which reduced gas mileage considerably. Adam then put in a myth of his own which comes from Night Rider. Could he really drive up into the back of the Big Rig without continually going at your original speed at crashing into the back of the truck? Adam puts it to the test. He goes at about 40 m.p.h. and as soon as he hits the ramp he slows down. He then tries it at a faster speed, and the same thing happens-As soon as he hits the ramp, he slows down just enough. Jamie then shows off in the “I can do anything better than you” style by doing in backwards. So, what did we get?

  • Tire Explosion Decapitation-CONFIRMED-If the piece of tire comes flying at you after the tire explodes on the highway, which it can, it can cut your head off.
  • Following a Big Rig to Conserve Gas mileage-CONFIRMED- If you follow a Big Rig at a close enough, you will have a better Gas mileage.
  • Night Rider Stunt-CONFIRMED-You can actually pull into the back of a Big Rig like the Hoff.

Psychonauts

Posted in Game Reviews at 9:18 am by earl

(9.5/10.00) This is one of the best games I have ever played! You play as Raz, a newcomer to the summer camp for psychics, and along the way you go into several minds in extremely unique levels and you learn some cool/interesting powers. The graphics are in the regular Tim Schafer style, which is cool in its own way, and the voice for Raz is provided by the genuis Richard Horvitz. This is a great game that everyone should play!

New Versions of Current Consoles

Posted in The Way Earl Sees It at 11:41 am by earl

You may notice that a lot of game companies are making different versions of their consoles, most of the time the newer one having a snazzy bigger hard drive, or a sleeker design. But should I really be concerned about which console to buy? Well, the way I see it, the companies usually make a second version for a certain reason, as stated earlier. And it all depends on what you want as a customer. If you want a bigger hard drive to back up your Gears of War saves and your Switchfoot music, get the Elite version! If you want a smaller PS2, get it! It all depends on what you want!

Lego Star Wars Trilogy

Posted in Game Reviews at 5:55 pm by earl

With the release of the combined editions heading towards the Wii and PS3, I thought I would review them seperately. Yea.

Lego Star Wars-(8.5/10.00)- This was definitely my favorite of the two. This one has you playing through Episodes 1-3, covering every battle from the battle on Naboo with Darth Maul to the fight with the Wookie resistance on Kashykk, this one covers them all. You have a variety of characters to play as-Jar Jar, Obi-Wan, etc. And each class (Jedi, Gungan, Droid, etc.) have a specific attack pattern. Except for Jar-Jar, he can’t attack. Just jump really high. The only problem I had was it was a little too short, although the two-player co-op was nice.

Lego Star Wars II:The Original Trilogy-(7.75/10.00)- This one was also pretty fun. This time you’re playing through Episodes 4-6, and it’s just like the other. A neat feature I liked is that if you has a game save of the other L.S.W. game you could load the characters from there onto this new adventure and play as them. Oh if only I could share the joy of seeing Pre-Evil Anakin fight Darth Vader. Or see Jar-Jar fight Vader. Either is satisfying. This one had more puzzles, which could sometimes be pretty challenging. Both of these games are great for any Star Wars fan.

You do not want to have to take these pictures this close.

Cool Tech-June 4

Posted in Tech at 11:39 am by earl

This will be a new series I’m starting showing all of the coolest Tech that’s hitting stores soon or has already hit. This is a new category I’m starting, and I’m excited.

Palm Foleo-This super-lite laptop hit stores on May 30th, 2007, and at a lite 2.4 pounds, it’s bringing new meaning to the word “portable computers”.  It’s compatible with your smartphone, and it has Wi-Fi, which is a very nice and handy feature. The battery life although, is weak and the price of $500 is a tad steep. But hey, it’s only 2.4 pounds! That’s worth $500? Isn’t it?

IPhone-Apple’s new IPhone will be hitting shelves soon, but at $600, is it worth it? This handy little phone will come in the 4 GB version and an 8 GB Version. It will boast a digital player, bluetooth, and a built-in camera. The phone of course looks awesome, and the multi-point touchscreen is awesome as well. This mega-phone will also come with an internet browser, which is sure to make Apple fans shake. This phone will be sure to shoot to the stars like the Ipod when it comes out late this month.

The Razr

Posted in Tech, Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 8:45 am by earl

You may be familiar with a cellular phone called the Razr. I personally don’t like these phones. The  body where you’re supposed to put your fingers is too small! I can’t hold on to it! It’s ridiculous! Please, make the base a little fatter! When people ask me, “Do you want a Razr?”, I’ll just say no thanks, I’m still waiting for the rotary dial cellphone. Which I am.

Stick Trinity

Posted in Sweet Internet Games at 12:25 pm by earl

This is a pretty fun flash game where you play as a little stick man who, for no apparent reason, is going around killing stuff, but hey, I don’t think he needs a reason. You can choose between several characters throughout gameplay, and it all leads up to a pretty cool boss battle on each stage that you choose from without neccasarily having to beat them to get to the later ones. Click here to play.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Posted in The Tube at 12:15 pm by earl

“Let me tell you a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down now I’d like to take a minute just sit right there, I’ll tell you how I became prince of a town called Bel-Air…”. This is a really funny show. It’s basically Will Smith, a “brother” from Philly who comes to Bel-Air to live with his Uncle and family. You get the picture. Like I said this show is funny, most of the jokes coming from Jeffrey or directed toward Uncle Phil or Carlton. Although it can get inappropriate at times, overall it’s a pretty good show.

Game of the Week:May 27-June 2/Game of the Month-May 2007

Posted in Video Games at 8:20 am by earl

Since I am writing this on June 1, 2007, I will go ahead and name the Game of the Month for May, last month. This month had some good titles, but seemed to be overflowed with lackluster titles, some with good potential. In our first week we were blessed with Command and Conquer 3 for the 360, but we were also let down with the release of Driver 76.  The next week we got Resident Evil 4 for the PC, but we experienced the movie game curse once again with Shrek 3 the Game. We suffered this once again with the Pirates 3 game which followed in Shrek’s footsteps. But it seems as if it has all been made up this past week with the release of several great titles-Halo 2 (PC), Mortal Kombat:Armagedeon (Wii), and Shadowrun. But their was one title that blew away all the dissapointments, and its name is Forza Motorsport 2. May 2007’s Game of the Month. Forza once again delivered a great driving experience with deep customization, shiny cars, and shiny cars. I have also named this Game of the Week for this week.
