Well well well…This week has been better than most, although the movie game curse claimed another victim. They killed Transformers. The promising game fell short of its possible glory. But have no fear… We also received the new Harry Potter movie game which could possibly be good, and we got our hands on The Bigs, an arcade-like baseball game for all three new-gen consoles. But there was one game that I think stood above the others, and its name is The Darkness. This mob/monster shooter puts you in control of some guy who has control over these little monsters with incredible powers. This is a refreshing game in the Summer movie game flood, and it deserves Game of the Week.

Mercenaries 2-This game from one of my favorite developers Pandemic will be coming back to our favorite workers who blow stuff up for a living. This game will have three playable characters, and lots and lots of explosions.

The Legend of Zelda:Phantom Hourglass- After Link’s highly successful journey on the Wii, he’s decided he’ll head to the DS for the first time in his new adventure. It will be interesting to see how they’kk use the dual screens late this year.
Â
Rock Band- This game that plans to beat Guitar Hero will be hitting stores late this year, but it will also come with some interesting attachments. It will come with a microphone, a drum set, and a guitar, which will probably run it’s price up unless they sell them seperately. But in my case, I’ll just stick with good ol’ Guitar Hero 3.

Need For Speed Prostreet-The latest in the NFS series will be returning to the next-gen consoles, and like your long on vacation aunt, be bringing back some neat toys. They’ll be bringing back drifting, and other kinds of neat races later this year.

Splinter Cell:Convicition-The latest in the great Splinter Cell series will have our buddy Sam Fischer trying to find a mole in his garden, I mean organization. This game will have truly next-gen physics and graphics late this year.

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2-The first in this series was one of my favorite games of all time, and I expect even more from this possible powerhouse of video games. You will be playing as Rayman trying to stop the evil bunnies who are trying to get everyone to love them and slowly take over the earth. Look for this one hopefully this winter.

Army of Two-I’ll admit, I’m really not as enthusiastic about this game as others have been, I kinda see this one as Splinter Cell’s co-op in one big game. But of course, their are others who disagree. Anyway, you can be sure to have plenty of cooperative moves, and more.

Assassin’s Creed-Possibly one of my most anticipated games is Assassin’s Creed. Although it somewhat reminds me of Prince of Persia in a different environment. There will be tons of cool moves, and hopefully, some very awesome gamplay.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games-Yea, I know, it sounds crazy, but it looks like Nintendo an Sega are finally teaming up to make a Mario and Sonic game where they’re competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. I’ll stop typing now because if I type anymore I’ll have to check myself into a mental home.

Spiderman:Friend or Foe?-There’s not really that much I know about this project. All I know is that it will follow Spidey in he film trilogy, and it will probably show up on all three next-gen consoles.
Guitar Hero 3-Another great game series is Guitar Hero, which has helped turn gaming into something cool. Thank you Guitar Hero. Thank You. Anywho, this new installment will feature all kinds of new stuff, from a new button look and some new songs, from Alice Cooper to Tenacious D. Rock on!

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground-The new Tony Hawk game heading to our systems will be Proving Ground, which will an appropriate title since the new game skate will hope to be giving Tony Hawk a run for his money. Let’s just hope it sticks to true skating formula, and it’s good on the Wii.
Â
Beautiful Katamari-The nextgame in the Katamari series will be pushing weird to the limit, which has been quoted as “making Japanese people say WHAT!” There ill be all kinds of new characters, and probably new levels. Ahhhahhh Nanananaaana nanananaan Beautiful Katamari!

Ratchet and Clank 5-Set phasers for fun! This is truly the best for last. This time Ratchet and the rest of the lombaxes are threatened to be killed by a new enemy, and it’s up to Ratchet, Clank, and possibly Captain Quark to save the day. There will be new weapons, including the disco gun which will make your robot enemies dance until they can’t dance no more!

This is a series I’m planning on doing on Mondays, but our blogs were down yesterday so I’ll do it today for this week. In this series I’ll preview the movies coming out this upcoming weekend. Enjoy.
Ratatouille-All Remy wants to do is become a chef, but there’s one tiny problem…he’s a rat. But with the help of his human friend who’s struggling in the kitchen they could possibly become the greatest chef in Paris! I was a fan of Cars and many other Pixar movies, and thanks to the wonderful voice acting by Patton Oswalt, I think Pixar is going to work it’s magic again with this one.
Live Free of Die Hard-What really is there to say about this movie? Officer Joh Mclaine (with the help of “The Mac Guy”) are off to save the world from terrorists and to save Mclaine’s daughter who has been kidnapped. Really, who needs a plot when you have crazy explosions, Mythbuster moments, and a helicopter being taken out by a car.
Sicko-This is another documentary behind the man Micheal Moore. In this little tale, we’re taking our minds off Al Gore’s little dream of the world flooding and focusing on people and their healthcare system. Since this is the man who made the highest-grossing documentary of all time, I think we can expect this one to throw some serious punches.

(Grade: B) This movie was actually pretty good, although it’s not like Spiderman that blows your socks off, you know. In this Marvel adaptation it tells the story of a man named Johny Blaze, who, as a teen, sold his soul to the devil so that his father could live. But now as an adult, he must now work for satan as his “Ghost Rider”. Nicholas Cage does a pretty good job of acting, especially in his transformation scenes, and I must say bravo to the actor who played the old Ghost Rider, awesome job. Overall, this one may not go down in my favorites like Spiderman and the Fantastic Four, but for a character that doesn’t really appeal to everyone, they did a pretty good job.

This isn’t that other one, this one is performed by the rapper “Snoop dogg”, and it is by far my favorite rap song.

(6.75/10.00) Yarghhh!!!! I got a chance to play the new Pirates game, and here’s what I think, Savvy!??!! Playing through the first thwo or three levels, I thought the swordplay was pretty cool in your bosses, but not as cool when you’re taking on the mindless minions. The “jackanisms”, which were little minigames where you had to pull of analog/button combos to unlock something, were also neat. The environments were also kinda pretty. The gameplay was pretty straightforward:L1 to block, Square and Circle to attack. The replay was also cool, allowing you to play through previous missions as different characters, although your new character, say Davy Jones, would still do the same things as say, Jack Sparrow. It was pretty weird seeing women slap ol’ Davy and people call him Jack. Overall, this was a pretty fun game for your Pirates fans who want to play out the movie, but to a hardcore gamer, they’ll just wish for more.Â

Well, this week has been better than others. We got some pretty good releases, inluding the good-time racer DIRT. We also had some pretty bad releases, like Raw Danger. Overall, it’s been a better-than-average week. But there was one game that stood out above the rest, and it’s been released 4 times to date! And it’s for the Wii. It’s name is Resident Evil 4. I know, I know, I already gave it this award when it came out on the PC, but the Wii version truly exceeds. Thanks to great use of motion-sensing, fun gameplay, and the fact it’s on the Wii, this is Game of the Week!

This is a really cool game where you can customize your character and pit him against other little guys. As you beat them, you can look like them. This is really great and it has some great replay value. Click here to play it.

Metroid Prime 3:Corruption-One of the most anticipated Wii games is Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Like in the DS Version, you will be interacting with those bounty hunters. One interesting part of the game is interacting with the environment. To open a door, for example, just extend your hand with the Wiimote, twist, and pull. You will also be using Samus’s gadgets like this. Using the grappling hook like a fishing line, for instance. This will be also used a lot in combat-pulling away enemy shields, etc. This looks to be one of the best Wii titles.
Â

Dragon Blade:Wrath of Fire- This is really just a game I read about this morning. At first I thought it would be just a regular boring RPG, but this looks like something that could give Lair a run for its money. (See screens below). I’ll make sure I’ll check this fantasy shooter out late this year.
Â

Project H.A.M.M.E.R.
Take a wild guess what this Wii game is about. In the video footage I’ve seen, you basically just have to go around beating stuff wit hyour giant hammer! The graphics look pretty good. That’s enough to get me interested!

This time the Mythbusters are hitting Tahoe to freeze 3 snow myths in their tracks. Can a yodeler cause an avalanche? Can you really get your tonque stuck to a cold pole? Is it safer to drive backwards on the ice? The Mythbusters are gonna find out!
First off Adam and Jamie turn the Yodeling Avalanche to small-scale with a small ramp with which they cover with flour. Adam puts his yodeling face on but is only able to cause a famous avalanche effect when he screams into a megaphone on one exact spot. They then take it full-scale. They get a professional yodeler, but neither she, she with a megaphone, a bullwhip, or machine guns can bring this puppy down. They then decide to use their famous Plan B: Dynamite. That gives them what they want. Later they went up with professionals in a helicopter who did it for a living. Looks like you can’t start an avalanche by yodeling.
The build team then put the famous tonque-to-the-icepole myth to the test. Grant takes a pig’s tonque and heats it up to regular tonque temperature. They then apply the saliva, and apply it to a 32 Degree Farenheit (Freezing Point) pole. It sticks so much that chunks of the tonque stick to the pole and tear off the pig’s tonque! Tori then puts his tonque on the line. It sticks.
The build team then put one final snow myth to the test: Can you drive better in the snow backwards? First off they attach a force scale on the front of the car to find out how much traction (grip) you have when driving backwards or forwards. The backwards has better grip! Hmmm… Maybe this myth isn’t so silly after all. They then go to a course where they teach police officers how to drive on ice. Tori will use the back wheel drive, Grant will use the 4 wheel drive, and Kari will use the front wheel drive. But they all reached one conclusion. So, what are the results?
- Yodeler’s Avalanche-BUSTED- A yodeler cannot provide enough power to get that snow to move like good ol’ dynamite can.
- Freezing Tonque-CONFIRMED- You can get your tonque stuck to a really cold pole.
- Better Traction Backwards-BUSTED-Even though you may get better traction backwards, it’s still way too dangerous to drive that way.

(7.50/10.00) I really didn’t think this game was going to be as good as it was. In this game you play through the events of Spiderman 3, with some extra, pretty fun missions. There are also gangs, which can be interesting. The game will give you the choice to respond to random events around the city, which have a lot of variety. Another thing I love is the other villains you run across. I’ve ran across a super-high tech gang and the lizard, along with the New Goblin. Which brings me to my next point, the boss batlles. The game will have you pulling off button combinations. You had to pull off a certain button combination just to get up and knock Harry around on his board. Overall, despite the some-what dissapointing graphics outside of cutscenes, some camera glitches, this is a good game for any Spiderman fan.
