I once had a Wikipedia page on my site, but do to the fact that wikipedia has a certain rule about “advertising your business/website”. Which I soooooooo was not doing. Dumb Wikipedia. Thanks a lot fellow user Ageo20. Thanks a lot. It was only 2 sentences long!

Game Previews-Fantastic Four:Rise of the Silver Surfer, Lego Batman, Guitar Hero Encore:Rock the 80s!

Posted in Game Previews at 1:21 pm by earl

Each of these three games have nothing in common, besides they are all video games. Go figure.

Fantastic Four:Rise of the Silver Surfer

The four are back for their first next-gen adventure, this time with 4 player co-op! This time, of course, they will be fighting the Silver Surfer and Dr. Doom, and of course in the video game fashion they will fight some more baddies to prevent the game from being 2 hours long. From what I read, each character will have solo missions that are tailored to them, along with group puzzles, encouraging you to use their different powers. My guess is that you’ll use The Thing to break stuff, but that’s just me.

Lego Batman

One of my favorite series last genration was the Lego Star Wars series. This had you in control of little Lego versions of every possibly imaginable Star Wars character. Well, soon Traveler’s Tales will be re-opening the Batcave for Lego Batman, a Lego version of the caped crusader. I don’t really know that much about it, but we’ll just have to hope for it sometime in 2008.

Guitar Hero Encore:Rock the 80s!

guitar Hero is coming back for another gig, this time, they’re joining up with Hiro and going back to the 80s. (Okay, they may not be teaming up, but it’s okay to have dreams!) This time they will have a slew of new songs, all from guess what decade? The 80s! This game will have all kinds of rocking songs, along with 3 multiplayer modes-co-op, faceoff (poss. different difficulties), and pro-faceoff. This one’s planned to re-rock the PS2 on July 17, 2007.

Mythbusters-Western Myths

Posted in The Tube at 9:58 am by earl

This was a truly great episode. This time the guys were testing two Western Myths-Shooting someone’s hat off and busting someone out of jail with horses. The build team was also testing the myth that if a theif was trying to break into a car using the pick lock technigue (shoving a rod down the outer crack of the driver’s door where the window goes) and if that could activate the sidedoor airbag which could send the rod flying through your throat. Nasty.

First off, Jamie went off to go get some accurate guns and ammo while Adam went to go get the hats. They came up with 8 historically-accurate hats and a ton of accurate guns. They decide they’ll just use a handgun and a big gun on each of the hats. One of the more powerful guns does slide the hat off, but not the whizzing power shown in the myth’s clips-The hat flies off in the clips. They then get no hat-flying until they use the shotgun, which sends the hat flying, but surveying the damage, they see that the victim wouldn’t live to tell his buddies about it. They then conclusively busted the myth. They then got the horse escape myth underway, where they built the prison cell most commonly used and most succeptible to the myth. But when 1 horse, 2 horses, an all-terrain vehicle, even a boom lift can get the job done, they then resort to good old faithful-dynamite. They put a stick on the ledge where the bars stand, and they put Buster in the cell in the safest position possible, with G-Force stickers on him. They then set off the explosion, but the bars didn’t even go! Although Adam was able to climb through the hole where the bars were after he removes them, they find the sad conclusion-Buster didn’t make it. the 100 G lethal sticker was tripped on his head and the 75 G was tripped on his chest, leaving this one busted. The build team then try as hard as they can to trip the side-door airbag with Grant’s robot, with the ballistics gel dummy with skull mounted above. But no boom. They then resort to making a kicking rig, which only kicks the dummy in the head at a superhuman power. They then play dirty, shooting the rod out of an air cannon into the dummy head, going staight through, busting the myth. So, where does that leave us?

  • Shooting off someone’s Hat-The regular guns didn’t provide enough resistance, and then something that did (shotgun) just killed him-BUSTED
  • Horse-Powered Prison Escape-Neither the one or two horses, an all terrain vehicle, or a boom lift could provide enough force, and then something that did allow Adam to escape was dangerous enough to kill your buddy inside-BUSTED
  • Pick-Lock Impalement-The pick-lock technigue or a superhuman kick to the side of the door was not enough to set off the side door airbag-BUSTED

So, Who’s Winning the Console Wars Now?

Posted in The Way Earl Sees It at 9:53 am by earl

Well, each of the brand new consoles have been out for almost a year, and you may wonder, “Who’s winning?”. I think it is clear that the PS2 won last generation, mainly due to it’s great third-party support. But now with the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360, who will win this time? Well, I have the privilege to play all 3 consoles, and own one of them, so I am going to make share my theories on this crucial topic.

Well, it’s no doubt that a console should be judged by how much fun it is, and that graphics, sound, and shinyness are just little perks. And in this case, the Wii would win, mainly due to the fact that it has had some considerably good games for its first year, not that the 360 didn’t and still has coming to 2 years. The PS3, however, hasn’t really had the best luck. Its launch was by-far a catastrophe, mainly due to lack of units, outrageous prices, and right now it only has a couple of good titles-Resistance, Elder Scrolls (Which you could just get on PC/360!), Virtua Fighter, Fight Night, whci hmost of the good titles you could just get on other, cheaper, consoles. The Wii had a great launch (Noone got shot!), affordability, and it has also sold a ton more units than the PS3 while it’s starting to approach the 360! It has also had some great titles, including Rayman, Zelda, Warioware, Super Paper Mario, SSX Blur, Excitetruck, Trauma Center, etc. Which, yes oyou can get one or two of these on other consoles, but with the motion sensing, you’re going to get a better time on the Wii! The 360 has also had some great titles. And each of these consoles has some great games on the way! Overall, I don’t think you can put the Wii in the same console war as the 360 and the PS3, because neither of them can beat the Wii in the “fun factor”, and I’ll admit the Wii’s graphics aren’t even close to the 360’s/PS3’s! But that’s not what makes a console, how much fun it is does, and, according to that, the Wii is definitely winning! Boom! Overall, I think that really Nintendo doesn’t have to worry about winning, because they earned immunity in this Survivor challenge by introducing the motion-sensing, only Microsoft and Sony, do, Microsoft is whooping Son’y tail!

Fianl Verdict-360 and Wii are tied for first because of their playability and great games, and PS3 is lingering behind. It’s needs to work really hard to get ahead in this race.

Hands-On with Ultimate Spiderman

Posted in Hands-On with Earl at 8:54 am by earl

Well, getting to play Ultimate Spiderman was a pretty satisfying experience, and I’ll tell you why. PLaying as Venom was by-far the coolest spiderman videogame experience I’ve ever had, leaping off of tall buildings and draining power out of victims was a blast. I got to play a boss battle as well with Venom, but that wasn’t as fun as just plain free roam. I then got to play some levels as Spiderman, and those were also cool, but not quite as cool, I mean, you’re comparing that to Venom! The boss battles were pretty cool, with the comic-like gameplay interesting (in a good way). Overall, this is a great addition to the Spiderman series.

So Far, So Good…

Posted in Movies at 5:52 pm by earl

So far the Summer movie season has surpassed my expectations. Spiderman 3 and Pirates of the Carribean 3:At World’s End were both by-far the best of the series, hands-down, and I hope that the following movies I would like to go see are just as good:

  • Transformers
  • Fantastic Four:Rise of the Silver Surfer
  • Evan Almighty
  • UnderDog-I’m a Jason Lee fan.

Spidey is still #1!

Posted in Movies, Weapons of Mass Enjoyment at 10:58 am by earl

Spiderman 3 is still the box office king with its 151 Million cash haul from its opening weekend, and surprisingly Pirates only pulled in 126 Million, Spidey also beat Pirates in the opening night by a mere 1.8 million, however Pirates did beat Spidey in number of theaters. I have seen both and they are both great choices.

Happy Memorial Day!

Pirates of the Carribean Series

Posted in Movies at 7:45 am by earl

First off, I would just like to give Carmike Cinemas a round of applause for having such a great theater, great availability of tickets, their seat layout, and how they use the DLP system to play their movies. I went and watched both 2 and 3 at thheir theaters, and it waas truly beautiful. (I could see the pores on Keira Knightly’s face-nice.) My hat goes off to you.

Pirates of the Carribean:Curse of the Black Pearl-(Grade:A) This is like one of those movies you just like to watch over and over. The story follows Captain Jack Sparrow as he trys to rescue his ship from the cunning Captain Barbossa. The zombie visuals are very cool and the action sequences are epic. I really did like this one, but the second one was really what got me into the series.

Pirates of the Carribean:Dead Man’s Chest-(Grade:A-) This one was really more of a cliffhanger to me, but yet they still managed to progress the storyline and introduce new, crucial characters like it was the third one. This time Captain Jack is having to settle his debt with Davy Jones that he owes from bringing him and the Black Pearl back. Throughout the story everyone is trying to get their hands on this chest, with the redeeming soon-to-be Admiral Norrington winning out, leading up to the decisive battle in #3.

Pirates of the Carribean:At World’s End-(Grade:A+) This is by-far the best in the series. This one delivered the blend of comedy, action, and romance that I hav always wanted it to. This time the crew start out going off to Davy Jones’ Locker, which turns out to be just a huge desert, in order to rescue Captain Jack so they can finally take down the East India Trading Company. Soon there is a meeting of the 9 Pirate Lords, a meeting with Jack’s dad, and a mind-blowing battle. This is why I watch the series! I am extremely looking forward to the next one! Yes Silv, there will be a new one, that is not just a “good ending”. Keira Knightly could have been fibbing in order to keep the secret! It’s obvious they’ll make the next one-Fountain of Youth!

Game of the Week:May 20-26

Posted in Video Games at 7:28 am by earl

Here we go again. It seems that with every summer blockbuster comes along with it a mediocre game that had such great possiblity-Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, Shrek 3. Strike that last one. If only game developers would put more thought into their games and inprove on the tiny little things that they all stumble on-camera, boring combat, repetitivity, etc.. With the dissapointing releases like Dawn of Mana, Pirates, and more, with another release of a Naruto game, this just hasn’t been a good week for video games. Therefore I must once again not give out Game of the Week this week due to lack of game quality. But don’t worry gamers! There is hope on the horizon! Next week a slew of possibly good games are coming out, like Halo 2 (PC), Mario Party 8, Forza Motorsport 2, and more!

Episode Recaps

Posted in The Tube at 4:00 pm by earl

Due to my strange devotion with certain TV Shows, I will be doing TV Show recaps on certain shows, as I did with Heroes, just because I enjoy doing it. The list goes as follows:

  •  Mythbusters-May 30th
  • Monk  & Psych (at once)-July
  • Heroes (When it comes back)-September

If I think of more that I have forgotten, I will edit this post, or you could just wait until I start, whichever you prefer.

Monk:Season 6

Posted in The Tube at 3:49 pm by earl

Monk will be returning in July with a slew of new episodes, and of course, I am psyched. (No pun intended.) According to a fan website, which is also kinda creepy, (This guy is a bigger fan than I am! And that’s scary!), and, according to him, these will be some of the opening episodes:

  • Mr. Monk and his Biggest Fan
  • Mr. Monk and the Buried Treasure
  • Mr. Monk and the Wrong Man
  • Mr. Monk and the Captain’s Girlfriend
  • Mr. Monk and the Rapper (Snoop Dogg?)
  • Mr. Monk and the Naked Man
  • Mr. Monk and the Daredevil (Poss. including Harold Krenshaw)

But don’t be afraid! I’ll be there like I was for Heroes and go over the episode, and I’ll possily go over Psych as well, just for you! Until then, Excelsior!
